IT was only his fourth game of cricket after picking up a bat to help a struggling junior outfit, but onlookers might have thought Joey Sherry had been playing for years.
The St Joseph’s College Year 10 student smashed a game-high 62 off 51 balls for Workers Gol Gol’s under 16s side in their 17-run loss to Settlers at the weekend as the club’s seventh and last batsman – putting on a 71-run partnership with Ned Torpey (a much more reserved 14 off 79 balls) to fall just short of victory.
“I was very happy with it, I was happy lasting more than nine runs for once,” Sherry said.
