Homeward bound: Mungo Man starts journey to country

MUNGO Man, whose remains are the oldest found in Australia, today begins his journey home to the Willandra Lakes, north-east of ­Mildura.

The 40,000-year-old remains will be returned to what is now Mungo National Park alongside 104 others at a sacred ceremony on Friday.

Mungo Man’s long-awaited repatriation begins today in Canberra, where the Ngunnawal people will bid him farewell.
