Confusion over ratepayer groups

WHILE I generally agree with Phil Douglass’s comments (SD, November 8), I would like to point out one emphasis.

In Mr Douglass’s letter there should have been clarification of which organisation he represents.

He states: “As for the ratepayers’ association, it was formed in November 2015 and was instantly attacked on Facebook.”

The name of that Association is Mildura and District Rural City Residents and Ratepayers Association Inc (reg no. A0093600W).

This organisation was formed after I had had a letter published in SD on August 25, 2015, pointing out how high Mildura rates are.

I was then contacted by Ms Joyce Wisneske and we called a meeting of interested people, which agreed to form a ratepayers’ association.

Mr Douglass had been the president of that association until he tendered his resignation on August 1 this year, along with two other committee members.

We then learned that another organisation had been formed, named Ratepayers Victoria Mildura Branch.
