Radiation unit push

A MILDURA breast cancer survivor is calling on local politicians to back her push to bring radiation therapy services to the region and help those battling the disease.

Tammy Currah was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013, and although the cancer was diagnosed and treated with chemotherapy in Mildura, she and her husband had to travel to Adelaide for a final stage of radiotherapy treatment – and they’re not alone. 

Radiation therapy is generally used as part of cancer treatment to control or kill malignant cells - a Mildura Base Hospital spokeswoman said there were no immediate plans for a local radiation unit.
