TODAY marks one year since Sunraysia was hit by the destructive Remembrance Day storm that caused extensive damage to many homes and businesses as hail, floods and gale force winds struck the region without warning.

Merbein was the first to cop the brunt of the storm which brought wind speeds of up to 96km/h before it reached Mildura where 25mm of rain fell in just 30 minutes.

Across Sunraysia 13,500 bolts of lightning were recorded, powerlines were brought down and trees ripped at their roots as about 21,000 homes were plunged into darkness, with 4000 of them staying that way the following day.
