Carp experiment could tempt fate

UNLIKE native species, carp numbers have managed to explode in the past two blackwater floods.

While they are great fun on the line, they are also an introduced pest and a constant reminder of man’s egotistical belief that they have the right to interfere with nature. 

Like rabbits, foxes and prickly pear, might we be staring down the barrel of the next environmental disaster with the proposed release of the carp herpes virus?

Sure, you will see graphs, wiggly lines and numerous snippets of anecdotal evidence on the benefits of this release, but what of the unknown effects like those shown in cane toads for example?
