VANDALS have destroyed parts of the Coomealla Golf Club course just hours before the tee-off of the Murray District Golf Championships, held yesterday.

A groundskeeper discovered several greens and fairways had been marked by tyres, with one green torn up, early yesterday morning.

Coomealla Golf Club manager Warren Fitzgerald said it was the second time the course had been vandalised in 18 months.

Although the championships went ahead, Mr Fitzgerald said it was disappointing to see.

“Especially with a big event on, I mean any time it’s an inconvenience, but with the championships – it’s not real good,” he said.
