Bus seatbelts were a life-saver in crash

BUS seatbelts saved lives at the weekend in a fatal coach crash which killed a 71-year-old bowls player on her way home from a tournament in Mildura.

That was the message from acting Senior Sergeant Mark Amos of the major collisions investigation unit following the tragic bus rollover on the Sunraysia Highway near Avoca.

Carmel Mitchell died at the scene when a coach carrying about 30 passengers, which was equipped with seatbelts, left the road on Saturday. Dozens more were injured in the crash.
