IT may have taken six months in the planning, but the stars finally aligned yesterday as Mildura Council met Richmond Football Club general manager Neil Balme to gauge the club’s interest in supporting the Mildura South Regional Sporting Precinct.

Community general manager Martin Hawson said council had been working to develop a relationship with the club over the past 12 months, and the opportunity to yesterday sit down and discuss the sporting precinct in detail was a major step in cementing the partnership.

He said the premiership title, now strapped firmly to the club, was a timely bonus and would go a long way in demonstrating the strong level of support for the project not just locally, but outside the region.
