City zoos a case for decentralisation

The sad death of a 43 year old elephant euthanised because of unbearable pain should raise the question of should the elephant have been kept in an open plains zoo, where it would have lived its life with open space for its surroundings. There should be a review of the need for city zoos which are a relic of the last century.

Animals deserve to be in spacious surrounds. It is time city zoos were relocated to regional areas.

This would be good for the creatures and boost a regions tourism and job creation. Our region is well suited to an open plains zoo.
