Premier Daniel Andrews’ “reforms” to protect renters are nothing more than cheap populism.
He knows that 25 per cent of Victorians rent.
And that they vote.
It suits him, therefore, to portray (all) landlords or lessors as ruthless, exploitative operators.
When it simply is not the truth.
Most landlords attempt to do the right thing by their tenants, in my experience.
Most renters will see very few real changes.
Just another example of Labor’s obsession with class warfare – the “haves” waging (social) war on the so-called “have nots”. A totally discredited concept in the 21st century.
And one which does not reflect the reality that many relatively well-to-do people choose to rent rather than to buy, these days.
