Power security bid: Lower Murray Water seeks summer priority

LOWER Murray Water is moving to protect Sunraysia’s horticulture sector, worth hundreds of millions of dollars, facing the state’s riskiest summer for power outages.

The water corporation has written to Victoria’s energy minister stressing the importance of a sec­ure power supply and requesting it be given priority access to electricity should the national grid come under stress.

The Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) has estimated the likelihood of an energy shortfall in Victoria between 39 per cent and 43 per cent.
