EARNING the trust of the lower Darling community will be a tough ask for a water department that has long failed to answer concerns about the river’s future.
Col Cullinan, whose family has farmed about 20km south of Pooncarie along the Darling’s western banks, was unconvinced by yesterday’s promises of more consultation and better security for the river.
Mr Cullinan famously asked former NSW DPI director-general Gavin Hanlon at the Pooncarie Hall last year about metering and compliance in northern NSW.
“He stood there and waffled on and didn’t answer the question,” Mr Cullinan said.
