DECREASING the rate of suicide in Mildura and the harmful toll it inflicts on family members and friends left behind is the focus of a new trial which began this week.
Mildura was selected as one of 12 sites across Victoria to trial the State Government’s suicide prevention initiative.
Releasing details of the trial this week, Murray PHN CEO Matt Jones said it would attempt to educate those who often came into contact with those at risk of suicide, and encourage them to play an active role in helping them seek help.
“It’s geared around building a capacity to be able to respond effectively and, at times, when it can make a critical impact,” Mr Jones said.
