A MAN who allegedly attacked an acquaintance with a machete following a night of drinking has been released on bail.
Keith Doolan was arrested on Monday following his involvement in a street fight in Robinvale last week in which he is alleged to have smashed a machete on the back of the victim’s head.
Earlier this week the Mildura Magistrate’s Court heard his actions left the victim with a large gash and a wounded elbow when the man attempted to protect himself from a further blow.
He was treated at Mildura Base Hospital for his injuries.
The fight is alleged to have started after the victim got into an argument with one of his two co-accused before it escalated into a physical clash in the front yard of a Robinvale house at which they had been drinking.
One of the co-accused was arrested and interviewed by Mildura police on Wednesday. However, the court was yesterday told no new information had come to light.
Magistrate Michael Coghlan said it was likely DNA testing would be carried out on a blood sample, however that process could take up to 10 months.
Doolan was yesterday bailed with conditions including that he reside in Robinvale and not come within 20km of Mildura – except for legal appointments and court dates, he report to police three times per week and he not contact his co-accused.
He will next appear in Mildura Magistrate’s Court on October 18.
