AN ANGRY Lower Darling community will demand better answers of the Murray-Darling Basin Authority and NSW DPI at this morning’s basin plan update meeting in Pooncarie.

Some lower Darling farmers went to Monday’s meeting at the Alfred Deakin Centre in Mildura but were left frustrated by the water authorities’ failure to provide details of plans to change the Menindee Lakes.

It’s feared the changes – part of a NSW plan to meet basin plan water saving obligations – will reduce the Lower Darling’s water reserve at Menindee from 480GL to just 80GL.

However, no details about the Menindee water savings project have been officially revealed by NSW DPI.
