IN THE 49 years since organisers decided against an annual football match due to rough play, the Police and Fireman’s Premier Golf Day has proved to be a hit each year.
The Mildura Golf Resort hosted the charity event on Wednesday, organised by the Christie Centre with Mildura Police and Mildura Fire Brigade.
“Apparently (the event) goes way back,” Christie Centre operator Krister Jonsson said.
“It used to be a football game between the police and firies in the 50s and it became quite violent, so they decided on a non-contact sport, so they chose golf.”
