Workout for the fit wits

“ATHLETES of the brain” matched wits yesterday in round three of the R.J. Shield Chess Tournament.

Players across four age groups played seven games apiece at Mildura South Primary School in a bid to amass the highest score and take first, second or third place and set themselves up to take out the championship in ­October.

Sunraysia Chess Club vice-president Kathie McManus said players played four rounds from March to October as part of the tournament , which aimed to find the best player of each age group at the end of the year.
