Blackout free zone: We can’t be switched off this summer

MEMBER for Mallee Andrew Broad fears power cuts during days of extreme heat will spell disaster for the region’s horticulture industry.

Mr Broad this week wrote to both Victoria’s energy minister and the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) requesting north west Victoria be exempt from potential load shedding during days of extreme heat.

Load shedding involves the switching off of electricity supply to groups of customers to maintain system stability and the balance between supply and demand.
