MILDURA Salvation Army is being stretched to capacity to support people struggling to put food on the table due to rising electricity prices, according to local captain David Davis.

Mr Davis said the Mildura centre had received an increasing number of calls and people presenting to the services seeking support with electricity bills.

“On Monday alone we saw three clients with energy bills of more than $2000,” he said.

“They panic, so it gets paid and that leaves nothing left to put food on the table. That’s when they come to us.
