Airport ‘ready to toughen security’

MILDURA Airport is prepared to roll out tougher security restrictions if called on to do so, its chief executive Bill Burke says.

His comments come as an expert in international terrorism warns Australia’s regional airports are at high risk of being exploited as soft targets.

The Office of Transport Security (OTS) has not told the airport to beef up its security screening, despite ramping up checks at the country’s 10 major metropolitan airports in the wake of the weekend’s anti-terror raids in Sydney.
