Safety officer to tackle the issue of farm fatalities

THE main body representing Victorian farmers is planning to employ a farm safety officer as part of its goal to achieve a zero fatality rate on properties.

National Farm Safety week began yesterday and runs until Friday.

Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) president David Jochinke said primary producers should be reminded of the importance of maintaining secure workplace practices.

He said the agriculture industry needed to double its efforts to achieve a zero fatality target on farms.
