Cr John Katis estimates Robinvale’s district population at between 6000 and 7000.

ROBINVALE councillor John Katis says the Federal Government should let locals do a head count to reveal the district’s true population.

The town has had its population underestimated for years, with the national

Census failing to give an accurate picture of how many people live in Robinvale and surrounding horticultural areas.

Cr Katis, who represents the Robinvale ward on Swan Hill Rural City Council, said the Federal Government should allow the council to count the area’s population instead of relying on the five-yearly Census.

According to data from last year’s census, made public this month, there were 3313 people living in the Robinvale area.
