A RECORD number of La Trobe University students is getting hands-on writing experience this week at the Mildura Writers Festival.

On Thursday, a total of 35 students and five interns began the La Trobe University Writers in Action subject, which will allow students to work as writers, critics, journalists, publicists, researchers and bloggers – all while completing an accredited university subject.

Senior lecturer from Bendigo Dr Sue Gillett said she was excited to see the number of students increase markedly this year.
