A FREIGHT train derailment that cut vital services to Ouyen and caused extensive damage to wagons, trackside infrastructure and about 200 metres of track was likely the result of track misalignment.
The December 2015 derailment disrupted power, water and gas services and forced the closure of the level crossing for three days and the rail line for five.
It followed a similar incident just seven weeks earlier at Nunga, eight kilometres south of Ouyen.
