A DRIER than normal winter in Central Australia could be the reason behind a recent influx of pelicans on the Mildura riverfront.
Birdlife Mildura convener Allan Taylor yesterday said he suspected the birdlife was in survival mode when it migrated south to the region in search of a food source.
“A couple of months ago it was rare to see a pelican around Mildura ... they just went somewhere else and why they left this area we don’t know,” Mr Taylor said.
