IT’S “unrealistic” to expect homeowners to be able to buy land, design a new home, build it and move in within 12 months.
That was Mildura resident Vernon Knight’s reaction when he applied, unsuccessfully, for a stamp duty discount under a State Government scheme, only to discover he didn’t meet the criteria.
The principal place of residence (PPR) duty concession allows home buyers to reclaim some stamp duty if they intend to live in their new home and move in within a year of taking ownership.
