Xbox controllers and tablet devices have sped up monitoring kangaroo and feral goat numbers from the air across western New South Wales.

The NSW Department of Primary Industries has developed the digital counting technique and is training staff from the Office of Environment and Heritage(OEH) in how to use it.

The aerial observers no longer require pencils and paper to estimate the population of red, eastern and western grey kangaroos and feral goats.
