WITH momentum building for the return of the passenger train to Mildura, surely it makes economic sense to connect the Victorian railway line to the NSW rail network by continuing the line from Yelta, across the Murray River and up to Menindee or Broken Hill to connect with the Sydney/Perth and Adelaide/Darwin rail network.
This would connect Melbourne to Darwin via country Victoria-through the “bush” and increase the passenger load on the Melbourne-Mildura link immensely.
It would also enable Sunraysia’s produce to be railed to Perth and Darwin in a few days, then off to Asia.
It’s a win-win for all involved.
I don’t know if the rail gauges are compatible but that can be overcome.Australia needs more “great rail journeys” as we are a huge landmass like Canada, the US, Africa etc, who all have great rail journeys.
