VICTORIA’S auditor-general will review whether the state’s landfill levy and sustainability fund are being managed transparently and meeting their objectives.
Mildura Council has led a statewide push for the State Government to reinvest more money back into communities for environmental programs, concerned the existing system is too “city-centric” and allowed money to leave the district.
The Victorian Auditor-General’s Office (VAGO) has included an audit of the landfill levy system in its work plan for the upcoming year, which will assess whether it is being managed transparently and meeting its intended legislative objectives.
