How the Wild West won over the heart of new officer: Helping to lift the veil

RECRUITS coming through the Victoria Police Academy viewed a posting at Robinvale as being sent to the Wild West.

No other town in Victoria had a reputation like it.

Brendan Simm (right) hadn’t even heard of the place growing up in Melbourne’s outer suburbs and as a recruit, he quickly learnt Robinvale wasn’t somewhere a young cop moved to willingly.

But when he and his wife wanted a tree change after more than three years in Melbourne’s west, he decided the Murray River town was the best place to get the full country experience.
