Officers in struggle on Ninth Street

TWO Mildura police officers were allegedly assaulted on Saturday night after a scuffle broke out on Ninth Street.

Sgt Scott Olsen said the officers approached a 27-year-old Latrobe Valley man about 6.40pm in Langtree Mall in relation to an outstanding whereabouts order.

The man fled before police caught up with him on Ninth Street, where he is said to have put up a fight and allegedly  punched the officers before being arrested.

He was taken to the Mildura Police Station where he was charged with assault and remanded in custody until yesterday morning, when he faced the Mildura Magistrates’ Court.

A 21-year-old woman was also charged with assault in the early hours of Sunday morning after an altercation at Dom’s nightclub.

“She threw a glass object and collected another patron who required medical attention to a cut to her head,” Sgt Olsen said.

The incident occurred about 1.30am and the victim was taken to Mildura Base Hospital for treatment.
