TEN goals in two weeks to Darren McCarthy shows at least in the Millewa Football League the traditional full forward isn’t extinct.

Shaking off pre-season talk of hanging up the boots, the man they call “Plugger” booted five in round four against Bambill and another five on Saturday in the Lions’ upset 20-point win over Werrimull to have new Lions coach Andrew Willison singing his praises. A stereotypical cult hero bush footy full forward, the imposing McCarthy gives the Lions a big forward target who rarely misses – a luxury at a time when even elite footballers are struggling to kick set shots.

“He’s been good, he gives us a nice target, he’s got a really good set of hands for a bloke his size,” Willison said.
