Drug testing ‘won’t curb abuse’

THE Rural Doctors Association of Australia (RDAA) says plans to trial drug testing of welfare recipients won’t curb drug abuse.

The Federal Government last week announced plans to trial the drug testing of 5000 youth allowance and Newstart recipients.

“People who are looking for a job do not generally have any higher incidence of drug use than those in the general population, even if they are receiving government assistance,” RDAA president Ewen McPhee said.
