PENALTY rates have crippled any advantage of a busier Easter holiday trade for Mildura hospitality businesses.

With businesses required to pay double time and a half from Friday to Monday, coffee shops and eateries reported making little profit despite it being one of Sunraysia’s biggest weekends on the calendar.

Mocha Mecca owner Luke Holdcroft said he paid his staff $47.28 per hour on Good Friday and Easter Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
