Sunraysia wary of new visa rules

THE peak body for migrants in Sunraysia says it hopes the Federal Government’s changes to 457 visas does not disadvantage skilled migrants from looking for better opportunities in Australia.

It followed Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull’s announcement yesterday he will abolish the temporary skilled visa in a labour force shake-up that is likely to have repercussions for Sunraysia.

Sunraysia Mallee Ethnic Communities Council (SMECC) president Redgina Balchin said the language proficiency and skill standards for two new temporary visas were not yet known, but requirements were already quite high.
