Turnbull should lift the tax free threshold

MALCOLM Turnbull could win the next election by the introduction of one quite simple policy – lifting the tax free threshold on personal income tax by $2000, from $18,200 to $20,200, in the May budget.

This would leave $2000 more in the pocket of ordinary taxpayers, the use of which would further stimulate the economy.

The loss to Treasury would be bearable.

There are far more votes in such a policy initiative than giving business – both small and large – a tax cut, at this time.

It will be particularly well received by the working poor – those earning less than the average wage.
