Riding high: Champion water skier Blight is ready to take on the world – again

OFF the back of her fifth Mildura 100 win in the Women’s Expert class, former local Chelsea Blight will head straight back into training with her sights now on the World Water Ski Racing Championships in the US.

Behind Merc Force F1, which included fellow skier Maddison Boyer, observer Christian Apps and driver Trent Souwer, Blight’s team smashed the Mildura 100 run record on Sunday with a time of 36:39.31, breaking the old mark of 37:22 set by her former team Hellbent in 2013.

“Going into it we were confident we were skiing well enough to try and push to get the race record so we were very happy to be able to do that again this year,” Blight said. 

“On the way home we got stuck behind a boat and had to overtake so that probably affected our time by maybe 10 seconds.
