MILDURA’S Souvlaki Inn was evacuated and Langtree Avenue closed off by police on Saturday night after witnesses observed flames coming from the restaurant’s roof.

Police and fire crews from Mildura, Merbein and Irymple were called to the blaze at 11.30pm and managed to extinguish it a short time later.

Country Fire Authority crews determined the fire started in an exhaust fan inside the restaurant due to a “build-up of fat in the fan”.

Witness Jess Garsed said he saw flames almost two metres high coming from the roof of the Souvlaki Inn.
