GRAIN growers in the Mallee are being advised to be on alert for increased mouse activity to avoid the chance of a plague.

About a month ago, CSIRO researcher Steve Henry visited mouse monitoring sites across Australia, which included traps based at Walpeup in the Mallee and the Adelaide Plains in South Australia.

Mr Henry said across Australia, including the Mallee, there was variability in mouse activity from one paddock to the next on some properties.
