AN oversupply of watermelons during autumn has caused a significant drop in the price for the fruit for Sunraysia growers.

Prices for watermelons dropped from $2.50 a kilogram during Christmas to just 30 cents by the end of this month.

Watermelon grower John Hederics, of Belah Heights at Trentham Cliffs, said the strong prices he received for his fruit during Christmas helped balance out the low prices he received towards the end of the season.
