Regions driven mad: Peak farming body calls for state to fund road upgrades

THE Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) has called on the State Government to boost spending on ageing and unsafe regional roads – a move welcomed by Mildura Mayor Glenn Milne.

In its pre-budget submission to state Treasurer Tim Pallas, the VFF has called for $160 million to be spent over four years on regional and rural council-managed roads, and extra funding for VicRoads to maintain its network of regional roads.

The submission said council roads were under increasing pressure from general road users and heavy vehicles, with band aid solutions such as lowering the speed limit being used.
