FARMING lobby groups and irrigators have welcomed a further review of how water recovery has affected rural communities in the Murray-Darling Basin.
Water ministers agreed an independent review would be done before any commitment was made to recover an extra 450GL under the Murray-
Darling Basin Plan when they met in Mildura for Friday’s Ministerial Council.
The study will also analyse measures to offset the plan’s 2750GL surface water recovery target, with ministers confident there will be no need to buy back any more water from agriculture in the southern basin.
