MORE international guests are visiting the Mallee, but the number of nights they are staying has dropped, latest statistics show.

Figures released by Tourism Research Australia showed 27,000 international visitors came to the region last year, up on 25,000 in 2015.

The figures showed international visitors stayed 808,000 nights in the Mallee, slightly down on 821,000 in 2015.

And at $29 million, international tourists spent $2 million less in the region last year than in 2015.
