Review will come first

AN INDEPENDENT review of the socio­economic impact of the Murray-Darling Basin Plan will be done before any commitment is made to delivering an extra 450GL for South Australia.

Basin water ministers agreed on a ­pathway to implement the basin plan at yesterday’s Ministerial Council in Mildura.

Victoria and NSW successfully pushed for a full review of the social and economic impact of the efficiency projects that would be done to deliver the 450GL of “up­water” demanded by South Australia, which would take the basin plan’s total recovery to 3200GL.
