Debate over lock as the key to a solution

COULD a new lock on the Murray River near South Australia’s lower lakes ease Victorian communities’ concerns about the Murray-Darling Basin Plan?

Victorian Nationals leader Peter Walsh has called for basin water ministers to discuss the idea at today’s Ministerial Council in Mildura.

Mr Walsh said Lock Zero should be built at Wellington, just upstream of the Lower Lakes near the Murray mouth in South Australia, and five barrages below Lake Alexandrina that keep the lakes a freshwater system, removed.
