THE Mildura region will not be left in the dark ahead of the planned release of a virus to control European carp numbers in the Murray River, according to the head of the National Carp Control Plan.

Mildura Mayor Glenn Milne this week raised concerns of a potential environmental disaster unless the expected huge number of dead carp in the river could be managed.

Cr Milne said that both environmentally and economically, the region could not afford to have large numbers of dead fish left in the river causing wide-ranging impacts if plans to remove them were not closely examined.
