IRRIGATORS’ representative groups have called on water ministers to take socioecomomic factors into account when they debate basin plan policy in Mildura tomorrow.
The National Irrigators’ Council (NIC) yesterday said the data from the northern basin review, which linked water recovery to widespread job losses, should be seen as a “gamechanger”.
“Ministers need to focus on outcomes for river health and the community rather than just ticking off numbers of gigalitres,” NIC chief executive Steve Whan said.
