Mr Shields, who had been sports editor at the Geelong Advertiser for the past decade, and was previously the chief of staff at the Ballarat Courier, made the move to Mildura in the new year with his young family, and was looking forward to building on the newspaper’s deep connection with the greater Sunraysia region.

“To come and live and work in a place like Mildura, at a newspaper with the standing that the Sunraysia Daily has, is something that I’m very excited about,” Mr Shields said.

“This is a progressive city, a great place to raise a family, and we are looking to embrace all that it has to offer.

“Having grown up in the country, I understand the passion people have for their regions, and the people of Mildura and surrounds are as passionate as any, so our role here at the Sunraysia Daily is to tap into that passion and advocate for our community, just as this newspaper has always done with the great team we’ve got here.”
