FARMERS are being urged to ensure they have effecti­ve protocols in place to reduce the spread of pests and weeds.

The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) said that although harvest was a busy time, the need for effective biosecurity practices was critical.

GRDC Northern Panel chairman John Minogue said when vehicles and machinery entered a property or moved from paddock to paddock, there was a heightened risk of the spread of weeds and weed seeds.
